2008 Visit to Lvbo Primary School, Dalian, China. In November 2008 our Headteacher, Mr. Crowther, made his third trip to China accompanied by Mrs. Axon, to visit our partner school, lvbo primary in Dalian. This was funded by the British Council as part of a joint curriculum bid involving dance, music and singing.
The arrival at Lvbo was the usual amazing welcome. We were presented with bouquets by the children.
The Headteacher, Liu Lina, gave a welcome speech in English. Mr. Crowther gave his response, including one line of Mandarin, thanking her for once again inviting us to her school. (Mr. Crowther was extremely nervous about speaking in Mandarin and hoped that he was understood!)
Two Lvbo pupils gave speeches which they had learned, word perfect, in English.
Lvbo School's Headteacher presented Mr.Crowther with a beautiful traditional Chinese paper cutting.
All the pupils demonstrated their morning exercises which they perform every day as part of their fitness programme.
A group of the younger children enjoying themselves at breaktime. They have a choice of equipment to play with.
A group of young singers performed the Jasmine Song. Some Year 6 children had recorded this in China Club so that it could be shown at Lvbo school.Above is a video of a Year 6 class in Lvbo singing the same song.
Mrs. Axon took a class of pupils for English country dancing. They had never done anything like it before and several teachers came in to watch and join in.
A calligraphy class. The pupils were learning how to draw the Chinese characters which represent the words in Mandarin.
The pupils practised their eye exercises so that their eyesight would become stronger. They did this twice every day.
Mrs. Axon taught a group of children how to play the recorder. Mr. Crowther and Mrs. Axon took forty recorders with them for Lvbo School to keep. Also a pupil showed her skills playing the zither. We think she is very talented!
This is an art class. The best paintings of the crab were displayed for Mr. Crowther to judge which was the best. More photographs of the trip can be found on Lvbo School's website www.lvboschool.com
