China Day-Year6

My China Day with Mr Lamplough.

On 19th February we had a China Day to celebrate the Chinese New Year. We did different activities with different teachers, my favourite activity was with Mr Lamplough. We went into the computer room where we did some research and put it in a PowerPoint Presentation. Here are some of the things I found out:

• Chinese New Year begins on a new moon and finishes 15 days later.
• The animals used to name the years are:-
Rat
Oxen
Tiger
Hare or rabbit
Dragon
Snake
Horse
Sheep, ram or goat
Monkey
Rooster
Dog
Pig or boar
This year the year is named after the pig or boar
• The Chinese, in China, and throughout the world, celebrate the New Year according to a different calendar. The calendar that the Chinese use to determine the New Year is based on the lunar calendar as well as the Gregorian calendar. It is also based on the changes of nature in the spring. There are few people left who can determine the actual day the New Year begins, as it is such an involved process. This year the New Year started on February 19th.

I had a really fun day we also did Chinese food tasting with Miss Altoft and Chinese writing with Mrs Sylvester I enjoyed all of these activities .
