What English people sometimes say...

We thought you would like some help with your English.

In England some of the things we say sound strange, they are called idioms.
Here are a few with the meaning underneath.

It's Raining cats and dogs!
It's raining heavily.
Mind your p’s and q’s!
Be specially careful to behave well.(Say please and thankyou)
You look like you’ve been pulled through a hedge backwards.
You are very messy and untidy.
She was sent off with a flea in her ear!
She was told off.
He was in a tight corner!
In a really difficult position one that’s going to be hard to get out of.
You’re not pulling your weight!
You are not trying hard.
He was up the creek without a paddle!
In a hopeless state.
It is like looking for a needle in a haystack!
Doing something impossible
That’s the last straw
The one last trouble that makes everything hard to bear.
They were as thick as thieves!
Best friends, or people who see a great deal of each other.
In at the deep end!
Getting deeply involved at once.
I am over the moon!
Extremely delighted.
She was like a cat that’s got the cream!
She was really happy with herself.
