At Brumby, each class produces a class assembly and presents it to the whole school and parents. We feel that not only is it enjoyable, but also provides a meaningful opportunity to use and improve on speaking and listening skills. The children at our school have talents in many areas and the class plays often provide a chance for children to show what they can do.
Class 5JLR would like to take you through the making of their class play which was entitled " Brumby Blue Peter".
As part of our geography topic we have been learning about Kenya.
We decided to show what we had learnt and present it in the form of a slide show. One group made up slides in Powerpoint and recorded their voices reading out the information.
Another group made up questions to interview a boy in our school who comes from Kenya. Jordan and Shannon worked the video camera and the interview was shown as part of the slide show.
Gerry and Kaine found a picture of the Blue Peter ship on the internet and it was traced onto acetate. We then projected the image onto the wall and Gerry moved the projector back until the image was enlarged to the right size. She then traced it onto card and cut it out.
Emily and Laura, the Blue Peter chefs, made flour dough biscuits. They looked so real that we had to remind Cameron not to eat them!
The cooker was made out of a box for the chefs to bake their cookies.
Meanwhile, another group are busy making a kenyan mud hut which is part of their sketch which they wrote themselves. In literacy we have been looking at how to write a play and set it out correctly. This was very useful for the boys. They wrote two sketches: "The Tribe" and " In the Wilds of Kenya". We had great fun watching them perfect their plays. It was very funny! Joe and George showed they had talent in this area when they entered the Children In Need talent competition
Sometimes children make their own masks, but these were bought at the Christmas fair.
Dress rehearsal time is always great fun.
The morning of the play is very exciting and we are all nervous. George is terrified by the looks of it.
The play has started and the Blue Peter presenters are waiting behing the closed curtain for their next bit. Bradlei and Shannon have worked the laptop to show the slideshow and now Shannon is performing in front of the curtains in "The Tribe" sketch. Bradlei is getting ready to open the curtains at the right moment.
So, as you can see, there is alot of hard work that goes into a class play but we think its worth it and we look forward to the next one. We hope you do too!
