Brumby Junior School is a large urban school with 400 pupils, serving a mixed catchment area near to the centre of Scunthorpe. There are currently 15 mixed ability classes with an average class size of 30 children or less. There are three or four classes in each year group and each year group works closely under the leadership of a year co-ordinator in planning, implementing and evaluating the curriculum.
Our school provides a happy learning environment, and we have a team of dedicated teaching professionals ensuring that every child receives a high quality education. The curriculum is planned and delivered on a subject basis. Teachers are class based but Maths and English are taught in sets throughout the school, based on ability, and some specialist teaching is undertaken between classes.
The school has excellent facilities. The classrooms are spacious and bright and in addition there is a library, a computer room, a large hall and a gymnasium. One classroom is a dedicated learning support room used by support teachers and teachers’ aides for teaching withdrawal groups of children who are on the special needs register. Outside there are 2 large playgrounds, a netball pitch and a large grass area for two football pitches or summer sports. Within an enclosed rectangle there is a large area of school garden and a wild area.
Above all we want
our curriculum to be thorough and relevant to the children. Because of
national requirements it is necessary to focus on key core areas of the
National Curriculum, these are:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Science
- Information Communication Technology
In addition to this core children will be given experience in the following subjects:
- Religious Education
- History
- Geography
- Music
- Physical Education
- Art
- Technology
We believe that these subjects provide a broader balance to the education which the children receive. They play an integral part in equipping the children will skills which they will need in the future.
Mr B.J.Crowther, Headteacher.
